What is e-ticket?

Electronic ticket or e-ticket is an electronic form of a ticket offered instead of the usual ticketing form. Booking a flight is carried out in a standard way, but the information about the journey, reflected on the ticket, is not printed on the form, and stored in a special database of the airline in electronic form. In the same way as a normal ticket, the electronic ticket is a document certifying the contract of air carriage between the passenger and the airline. The only difference is ease of use — e-ticket you can buy from the comfort of home, it is impossible to forget or lose, accidentally pour coffee or thrown out after the flight (forgetting the fact that the same form is the ticket "back").

Speaking about the electronic ticket, many equate it with sales of tickets via the Internet, but it is not so — it can be bought in normal office or Agency, and the possibility of selling through the Internet is not the essence of the electronic ticket, and only one of its advantages. It is important to understand that the word "electronic" does not mean "paperless" or "ticketless" (at least, currently): in accordance with the Annex to order of Ministry of transport of the Russian Federation from 08.11.2006 No. 134 "About establishment of forms of electronic passenger ticket and the baggage receipt in civil aviation", with the purchase of an electronic ticket, the passenger must receive the document titled "itinerary receipt" (itinerary receipt) containing information about the purchased tickets, and other notifications that are required in accordance with the laws of the country and with international conventions.

A number of airlines does not require the itinerary / receipt on registration, but we highly recommend to have it with you, because she may need at some Russian airports for presentation to the aviation security and passport control when flying abroad, as a proof of return ticket. If the e-ticket was paid by credit card, some airlines may be asked to present itself and the plastic card as additional measures to ensure safety.
